Published by Energy Information Administration (US) (original article)

Where are the power plants, refineries, importation sites for energy in your state? How does energy use compare to the national average? What kinds of fuels are most used? The EIA's State Energy Profiles and related reports offer a wealth of information about energy in the United States: how and where it's made, where it's used, and what it costs.

Where are the power plants, refineries, importation sites for energy in your state? How does energy use compare to the national average? What kinds of fuels are most used? The EIA's State Energy Profiles and related reports offer a wealth of information about energy in the United States: how and where it's made, where it's used, and what it costs. It's a veritable coal mine of data.

  • Massachusetts is a leading source of electricity generated from landfill gas and municipal solid waste.
  • 81% of U.S. electric power plants with a minimum net summer capacity of 100 gigawatts run on fossil fuels: natural gas, coal, or petroleum.
  • Texas produces and consumes more electricity than any other State, and per capita residential use is significantly higher than the national average.
  • Texas also leads the Nation in wind-powered generation capacity; there are over 2,000 wind turbines in West Texas alone.
